Tretinoin was originally developed to treat acne, as it increases cell turnover which promotes the extrusion of plugged material in the follicle. However, it was soon discovered to have anti-aging effects as well.
Tretinoin helps the skin renew itself by stimulating collagen and elastin production. Tretinoin, also known as Retin-A, Avita and Renova, is a derivative of Vitamin A which indirectly inhibits the enzymes that break down collagen and elastin.
